Koller's history

Koller was founded fifty years ago with the initial development of the carriage SKA2.5, which has become legendary. The simple and tough design led to high popularity of the carriage. Shortly the market had showed demand for a tower yarder just as simple and tough as the carriage. The idea of the tractor mounted tower yarder K300 was developed and implemented in record time. The K300 / SKA1 system was quickly launched worldwide in the major forest regions. This tower yarder is still widely-used worldwide.

In the nineties the forest markets had started to differentiate. Overseas, for example in South America, there was a trend of mechanically driven tower yarders: simple, tough and inexpensive. In Central Europe, especially in Austria, the forest sector was faced with a manpower shortage and demands in ergonomics. This was the beginning of full hydrostatic drive tower yarders: line programming and radio control became possible. Shortly, tower yarders were mounted on to trucks with loading cranes.

The K501 was the first machine covering both markets. Equipped with automatic transmissions, it was exported as a mechanically driven tower yarder. In Europe, it was driven hydrostatically with pumps and motors. Nowadays, the K501 is replaced in the overseas markets by K601 and K701 Power Yarders.
With continued innovation, Koller looks forward to a successful future.
